At Aarhus Jazz Festival 2024, you can attend various events and courses to learn more about the world of jazz. This year, in addition to experiencing great concerts with jazz artists, you can also take a look behind the scenes – and gain a greater understanding of the history, culture, and work involved with jazz. For example, you can experience a lecture in Musikhuset Aarhus with jazz writer Niels Christensen. He will lead you through the story behind ‘Jazz på Svenska’ from 1964, which is one of the all-time most popular jazz records in Scandinavia. Here you can learn about pianist Jan Johansson’s much too short life and his musical universe. You can also experience two renowned
Swedish jazz musicians, Jan Lundgren and Hans Backenroth, interpret the album live at Musikhuset. The festival also features the documentary film Stemmer i Jazzen, which provides an intimate insight into the lives and work of three Danish composers and jazz musicians. The film profiles Christina Dahl, Benita Haastrup, and Kathrine Windfeld and celebrates not only their talent, but also the power within jazz to connect people across cultures.
If you want a hands-on experience, FOF Aarhus offers various music courses under their Jazz Me Up! program. Intensive guitar, saxophone, piano and vocal courses invite you to dive into the forms of jazz. FOF also presents a live edition of the podcast JazzKonversationer, where Fredrik Lundin and Jens Rasmussen talk about some of the newer jazz movements represented and developed by the record label ECM.
