New Renditions of Traditional Jazz
Sound of Duke is a band that plays music from Duke Ellington's legendary and extensive repertoire. Inspired by traditional jazz, they perform renditions with fresh new arrangements that will leave you feeling the band's shared love for music. Swing, fun, and a festive atmosphere are promised when Sound of Duke plays!
The six young members met in 2022 at Skurups Folkhögskola in Skåne. As the winner of the Blue House Youth Jazz Festival and SM Best Jazz Group 2023, the band and charismatic singer Elvira Lundstedt have since established themselves on well-known stages around Sweden, visiting jazz scenes and clubs such as Bangen jazz & blues festival, Ystad, Umeå, and CPH Jazz Festival, as well as Utopia Jazz (Gbg) and Stampen (Sthlm).
They are currently warming up for the big summer tour in 2024 to celebrate Duke Ellington's 125th anniversary with a studio recording and new events.
"The young but already award-winning Sound of Duke tribute sextet from Sweden, with vocalist, guitar and piano player, rhythm section, and dancing talent Teis Ortved (ts) played in the dimly restored Drop Inn on Thursday the 30th, where their age group as well as myself and other older people stopped by to support the venture, which after some blushing managed to find its direction, so best of luck and hope to it."
